Cheltenham General Hospital

Urology is a surgical speciality, covering the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate and male reproductive organs. The department has a dedicated team of consultants, specialist nurses, allied healthcare professionals and clinical support to look after patients who may have been diagnosed with conditions such as cancer, kidney disease and neurological disorders.

Your donations have helped to fund specialist state-of-the-art-equipment, such as surgical robots which enable precision surgery that provide better outcomes for local patients, to imaging technology such as bladder scanners that help to improve diagnosis.

Patient Story

"I am writing to you today from the comfort of my living room, which I was returned to in record time, thanks to an incredible, world-class organisation called the NHS. During my brief stay at Cheltenham General Hospital, I had my bladder and prostate removed by a robot! I believe a chap called Mr Patel also played some part in this procedure - he probably made it a cup of WD-40!

In all seriousness, the first time I met Mr. Patel at my pre-op interview, he made me feel completely at ease and took the time and trouble to discuss my concerns in a relaxed and reassuring manner. I was so glad that he was going to be my surgeon. As I sit here admiring my beautiful, life-saving stoma, I can fully appreciate what a skilled surgeon Mr Patel is and how lucky and privileged I was to be 'done' by him.

During my post-op recovery period, I was put in the Tivoli ward, where I was blown away by the level of care and personal kindness that every single member of the nursing team showed me. Indeed, I was so well cared for that I was allowed home just four days after my operation. For all of the above I wanted to say thank you."
