Consultant Anaesthetist

Area of expertise

Dr Rea is a Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Management of Chronic Pain. Dr Rea sees all patients with chronic pain and he has a special interest in Abdominopelvic Pain syndromes.

Prior to joining Gloucestershire Hospitals, he worked as a Consultant in Pain Management at University Hospitals Birmingham where he set up an Abdominopelvic Pain service, and University College Hospitals London. He also spent 2 years working as a pain consultant in the Regional Endometriosis Clinic at Birmingham Women's Hospital. He is a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain and its Abdominopelvic Pain Special Interest Group. He has presented at the British Pain Society's annual meeting on Pelvic Pain.

Outside pain management, Dr Rea works as an Anaesthetic Consultant at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. He has a strong interest in medical education and is the RCOA College Tutor at ROH.
