Commemorating COVID-19 at our hospitals

11 Mar 2021, 7:08 p.m.

As part of our commemoration marking a year of COVID-19, we will be remembering the lives lost to the pandemic and thanking our colleagues for everything they have done and continue to do.

One aspect of these reflections is the creation of a new commemorative garden at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and the improvement and redesign of the garden by pathology in Cheltenham General. We are raising money for these spaces through Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity's dandelion appeal. These permanent places of reflection were suggested by colleagues from across the Trust as a fitting way to mark the events of the past year.

The last year has been incredibly challenging for all of us and colleagues have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic with bravery, resilience and compassion.

In addition to the garden spaces, we would like to create an artwork that commemorates all that we have lost, and indeed found over the past year. By sharing your memories with us, you can be part of this commemoration.

Your memory may recognise an individual or team or be a tribute to someone who sadly lost their life to COVID-19.

If you work for the Trust, you can tear off the memory side of your postcard and drop it into the commemorative post boxes at:

  • the volunteers' desk, The Pillars Entrance, Cheltenham General Hospital
  • the volunteers' desk, St. Luke's entrance, Cheltenham General Hospital
  • the volunteer's desk, The Atrium, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital
  • outside the Chapel, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital
