Whatever your role, as a valuable member of our team you will enjoy a range of benefits and rewards at Gloucestershire Hospitals.

Annual leave

Benefit from a generous NHS annual leave entitlement*. You will receive the following annual leave allowance (pro-rata for part-time employees), plus bank holidays:

  • 27 days when you start
  • 29 days after five years’ service
  • 33 days after ten years’ service

You also have the opportunity to buy and sell leave each year (subject to approval).

Flexible working

We value our staff for their contribution and commitment to the NHS, irrespective of their working hours or work pattern. We recognise that effective practices to promote work/life balance will benefit the organisation and its employees.

Pension

The NHS Pension scheme is one of the most generous and comprehensive in the UK. When you start working for the NHS you will automatically become a member (unless you opt-out) and you will get an excellent package of pension benefits, including life assurance and ill health retirement benefits.

Reward and recognition

We like to recognise the efforts and achievements of all our staff, and we do so through our annual Staff Excellence Awards which celebrates success and contribution across a variety of areas.

Health and well-being

All staff can access an Occupational Health service and our in-house Staff Support counselling service, should they require it. We offer free flu vaccinations to all our staff each year as well as access to free smoking cessation services and money advisory services. We also run popular resilience workshops for staff and on-site meditation sessions.

We have negotiated a range of discounted membership rates at local gyms and health clubs for our staff. We also offer our staff a choice of two different cycle to work salary sacrifice schemes.

NHS Discounts

As an NHS employee, you will instantly be able to access some great discounts with national retailers and service providers. We’ve also negotiated a range of discounts with local businesses on your behalf so you can get great deals on almost anything.

Family friendly

We operate a range of family friendly policies, including generous maternity, paternity and adoption entitlements. We run our own on-site nurseries offering flexible, affordable childcare exclusively for our staff, with the option of paying some, or all of, your fees through salary sacrifice to save on tax, NI and pension contributions. We also operate a childcare voucher salary sacrifice scheme enabling all parents to save on the cost of childcare for nursery and school age children.

Our nurseries

Both Little Apples and Little Oaks day nurseries work in partnership with parents and carers to provide high quality childcare for each individual child. We offer NHS staff flexible or fixed places to meet the needs of our workforce. For parents’ convenience, fees are deducted from their salary, one month in arrears. Contact Sarah Penston, Childcare Manager, on 0300 422 2260 or 0300 422 5095.

Travel

We operate a free bus service between our two main hospital sites so staff can travel to work for free. Read more about travel and parking.
