Emergency Departments extremely busy

6 Dec 2022, 5:14 p.m.

Our hospitals are extremely busy at present and we are strongly urging people to only call 999 or visit the two Emergency Departments if it’s a life-threatening situation or a serious injury

Across Gloucestershire there are a range of services people can access when they are are ill or injured and it’s not life-threatening. This includes NHS 111, Community Pharmacy, GPs, Community Minor Injury and Illness Units, Out of Hours Services and the Gloucester Health Access Centre.

The local asapglos.nhs.uk website and ASAP Glos NHS App also offer care advice as well as information on all local services and when to use them.

In addition, we have seen very high demand in our Children's Emergency Services, and we absolutely understand that many parents are concerned by national news reports on Scarlet Fever and Strep A.

Over the weekend three additional consultant paediatricians came into the hospital to support our busy team and provide care and advice to patients and we would like to thank them and our ED Teams for their continued care.

The NHS Healthier Together website and app has a wide range of useful information on illnesses, including Scarlet Fever and Strep A, signs and symptoms and can guide you to make the right choice on when and where to get help: https://what0-18.nhs.uk/.

We would also remind people to please show respect and kindness towards all staff when accessing services and remember they are doing their very best to help them.

Information:

A&E Live waits: our live waiting times will be temporarily unavailable from 8pm on Tuesday 6 December until midday on Wednesday 7 December. due to a system upgrade

We are also asking relatives and carers to do everything they can to work with us to get their loved ones home from hospital as quickly and as safely as possible, with additional support if necessary, from local NHS community services or adult social care teams.
