Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Collective Leadership at Gloucestershire Hospitals

Today the nursing and midwifery teams at Gloucestershire Hospitals take an important step in delivering a key component of our nursing and midwifery excellence programme. The establishment of our Nursing and Midwifery Excellence (NaME) Collective Leadership Council brings shared decision making to life.

Shared professional decision making offers a collaborative, non-hierarchical approach to leadership which can empower nurses and midwives to identify, listen, act and improve outcomes, experiences and use of resources across systems. It can help create and sustain a culture of excellence for colleagues wherever they work, whatever their role.

Professor Steve Hams, Director of Quality and Chief Nurse said: “I am delighted to announce today that Khoboso Hargura – Adichareh a senior direct care nurse has been appointed as Chair of the NaME Collective Leadership Council. Khoboso was chosen by a group of peers supported by Alison Moon one of our Non-Executive Directors. Shared professional decision making offers the opportunity to drive transformational change which, when underpinned by evidenced-based policy, provides as strong collective nursing and midwifery voice.”

Khoboso said: "I am delighted to have been offered this role as this is a fantastic opportunity. Together we can be the change we want to see."

Suzie Cro, Programme Director for Nursing and Midwifery Excellence said: "I am delighted that I will be working alongside Khoboso, as chair, and Charlotte as vice chair in developing our collective leadership approach. Their energy and enthusiasm will be an amazing driving force for change, enabling our frontline colleagues to influence and shape our excellence programmes".
