- N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antibodies are associated with limbic encephalitis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), ataxia and epilepsia partialis continua, psychiatric symptoms, amnesia, seizures, dyskinesias, autonomic dysfunction and loss of consciousness.
- There is an association with ovarian or mediastinal teratomas but may occur without any malignancy.
- Test performed by Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Clotted blood. (No patient preparation or special handling required)
Adult
5ml Gold-top SST tube or 3.5ml Rust-top gel tube (Trust users only)
Paediatric
Can also be analysed on CSF
