We are incredibly grateful to our staff for the continued commitment and professionalism that they’ve shown throughout the winter months.

In times of adverse conditions such as we are experiencing the hospitals has well-rehearsed contingency plans to ensure that patients continue to receive care.

For any plan to be successful you rely on people to implement it and we are hugely indebted to our staff for the good will that they have shown to go the extra mile in times of challenge. Throughout the winter months and in particular this week they have been quite incredible and have gone to great lengths providing care for our patients.

With regards to the very specific suggestion that is being made we are keen to understand better the circumstances and would urge those colleagues to make contact with us internally through the normal channels. We want to assure those staff members that their enquiry will be treated sensitively and in confidence.

More broadly other elements of our plan which have helped ensure that we continue to deliver care at Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospitals include:

  • Offering key clinical staff, especially those who live further afield, accommodation so that we can fill shifts the next day.
  • Through the help of Gloucestershire and Worcestershire 4x4 Response and staff at the hospitals who volunteer up their time and vehicles, we are able to transport key staff into work in 4x4s
  • We also offer staff tokens so that staff can get food while at work.

Without this collective good spirit and will we wouldn’t be able to provide the level of care that we currently do at our hospitals and we are incredibly grateful to our staff for the continued commitment and professionalism that they’ve shown.
