Quality Summit: Urinary Catheters (11 November 2024)

19 Sep 2024, 3:34 p.m.

We are holding a Quality Summit on 11 November 2024 at Redwood Education Centre, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital to explore a number of issues identified through thematic analysis relating to the use and care of urinary catheters.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with colleagues from Gloucestershire Hospitals and the wider One Gloucestershire system to identify issues and take forward quality improvement initiatives with the intention of having positive outcomes for both patients and colleagues.

From the themes identified through thematic analysis, the Quality Summit will focus on two pathways:

  1. Identification of incontinence and assessment and use of the appropriate management of alternatives to an indwelling catheter
  2. Patients that are appropriate for management with an indwelling urethral catheter get the right care and ongoing re-assessments for the use of the catheter

Within these pathways consideration will be given to appropriate training and resources for all Trust staff.

What is a Quality Summit?

Watch below as Kerry Holden, Deputy Director of Infection Prevention and Control explains the importance of taking part in the Quality Summit:

A quality summit is a multi-disciplinary collaborative of staff and stakeholders, who together use their collective knowledge and wisdom to explore complex issues with the intention of bringing about measurable and sustainable improvement, through the coordinated use of systems based diagnostic approaches and quality improvement methodology. All staff are welcome!

On 11 November, we will explore the above issues in depth with staff who carry out the work thereby ensuring we are looking at the issues as ‘work as done’ rather than how it is envisaged.

Following the quality summit we will be supported by the quality improvement team and Gloucestershire Safety and Improvement Academy (GSQIA) to prioritise the issues and take forward the agreed quality improvement projects.

  • Date: 11 November 2024, 14:00 – 17:00
