23 Sep 2024, 1:52 p.m.

Stoptober is coming! It’s never too late to quit smoking, and you will notice almost immediate improvements to your health when you stop.

Stoptober is a great time to join others giving quitting a go from 1 October!

If you are someone who smokes, you can consider your hospital admission as a golden opportunity to quit smoking. We understand that it's not easy, but with the right support, it becomes much easier. Our expert, friendly in-house tobacco-free staff will provide you with the necessary support, including Nicotine Replacement Therapy, to make your tobacco-free journey a huge success.

Many people try to quit smoking with willpower alone, but it's much easier to go smoke-free with the right help. Our Tobacco-Free Team will be holding events during October, why not come along and speak to our team.

Stopping smoking in pregnancy

Smoking during pregnancy is known to increase the risk of complications such as premature birth, stillbirth and low birth weight.

Protecting a baby from tobacco smoke is one of the best things you can do to give a child a healthy start in life. Smoking is an addiction, and it can be difficult to stop, but it’s never too late to quit. All pregnant women and birthing people in Gloucestershire are monitored for CO levels (whether smoking or not) at every contact in their maternity journey.

With specialist support, smokers are four times more likely to succeed than going it alone and Stoptober offers a great opportunity to set a date for your quit.

  • Look out for our Stoptober information stand during October at our Antenatal clinic at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
  • Speak to your midwife or health visitor and find out more about the support we offer on our Support to stop smoking during pregnancy page.
