Our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical team specialise in the treatment of diseases, injuries, tumours and deformities of the mouth, jaw and face.

Patients are referred to us from both medical and dental practitioners. We also receive patient referrals from the county's two Emergency Departments (A&Es) if the patient has suffered facial trauma including broken jaws, cheekbones and facial lacerations.
What we do
Head and neck cancer surgery
- Removal of mouth, jaw and face cancer
- Reconstruction with skin and /or bone grafts
- Removal of benign and malignant salivary gland tumours
Dento-alveolar surgery
- Wisdom tooth surgery (removal and coronectomy)
- Removal of impacted / malpositioned teeth
- Surgical endodontics (apicectomy and retro-grade filling)
- Removal of jaw cysts
- Treatment of severe dental and facial infections.
Conscious sedation
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery under conscious sedation. Read our patient information leaflet on Conscious Sedation
Facial trauma
- Fractured jaws, cheekbones and noses
- Initial treatment of avulsed (knocked-out) teeth
- Facial lacerations
Salivary gland surgery
- Removal of benign and malignant salivary gland tumours and cysts
- Removal of salivary gland stones (endoscopically if appropriate)
Skin cancer surgery
- Removal of benign and malignant skin tumours with cosmetic reconstruction
Dento-facial orthopaedic and sleep apnoea surgery
- Surgical management of acquired and developmental dental and facial disproportion
- Separating and repositioning of upper and / or lower jaws
- Surgical and non-surgical management of sleep apnoea (with Orthodontic colleagues)
Oral medicine
- Recurrent oral ulceration
- White patches within the mouth
- Facial pain
- Investigation of salivary gland disorders.
What we don't do
Dental problems eg toothache or lost or loose fillings and crowns
