Should I go to A&E?

Gloucestershire Royal Hospital Emergency Department is for emergencies only, which include:

  • loss of consciousness
  • acute confused state and fits that are not stopping
  • chest pain
  • breathing difficulties
  • severe bleeding that cannot be stopped
  • severe allergic reactions
  • severe burns or scalds
  • stroke
  • major trauma, like a road traffic accident
  • sepsis
  • other minor injuries and illnesses that cannot be treated by your GP

We try to see, treat, admit or discharge patients visiting A&E within four hours. We see patients according to the seriousness of their condition, so you may notice patients who arrived after you being seen before you.

If you need medical advice or treatment, but you’re not sure where you should go, visit 111 for guidance.

Where should I take my child in an emergency?

This is where our specialist children’s staff are based, and they can provide your child with the care they need.
