Woodmancote Ward
Patients come to Woodmancote ward for specialist care following a stroke. This part of our stroke unit focuses on the rehabilitation phase of stroke care and HASU at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital specialises in the acute phase.
Patients who have had strokes are treated by a multidisciplinary team which specialises in stroke care. The core team consists of:
- doctors
- nurses
- physiotherapists
- occupational therapists
- speech and language therapists
- dietitians
- therapy assistants
- psychologists
- social workers
Research has shown that stroke patients treated on a stroke unit do better than those treated on normal medical wards. Patients who are treated on a specialist stroke unit are more likely to:
- survive the stroke
- have fewer disabilities
- be able to live independently
