Therapy Link: Gloucestershire Brain Injury Team
This page gives you information about the role of the Brain Injury Team therapy link, and what to expect as a patient and family.
The Gloucestershire Brain Injury Team is a team of therapists working with adults who have a brain injury. The team is made up of psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists with support from therapy technicians. As it can be difficult to always know who to go to for information, we identify one of the therapists as a link person for the therapy-related aspects of your care and rehabilitation. You will be given the therapist’s name and details of how to contact them.
What can the therapy link help with?
Your therapy link will:
- be the first point of contact for patients and their families to talk about brain injury therapy
- provide information about the team member's roles
- organise meetings, where appropriate, between the therapy team and the patient’s family to discuss progress with goals in therapy and plans
- be a point of contact for therapy-related concerns or questions
- be responsible for the supervision of the patient's goals
- liaise with any out-of-county units about the patient, should this be appropriate
- be involved in discharge planning from a therapy point of view
Your therapy link will not:
- be able to respond to non-therapy aspects of the patient’s care.
The medical and nursing teams will be better able to respond to any concerns or queries regarding medical/care issues. Please contact them directly via the Ward.
- be available every day. Although we do our best to be approachable and communicate with you regularly, we are not available every day. There will be delays in responding to non-urgent queries, but we will get back to you.
We will attempt to contact you formally once a week to update you on the therapy. Families are encouraged to identify one family member to receive these updates.
- be able to answer every therapy-related query themselves. The therapy link will liaise with other therapists in the team and ask them to respond directly, or get information from them to share with you. You can, of course, also approach other brain injury team therapists about the therapy they are responsible for, should you see them anyway, for example when an inpatient is on the ward, or communicate with therapists via the contact diary we will give you.
